Rep. Steve King: Magna Carta wasn’t concerned with medical malpractice claims

Steve KingI thought the gentleman from Pennsylvania’s look at HR 1215 was a really deft way to focus on this and speak about the Magna Carta, but there wasn’t anybody back in old England in that time that had any shot at filing a liability claim, let alone receiving a frivolous claim that would make one individual vastly wealthy at the expense of a lot of other folks.

So this is something that has accumulated over the last 502 years since the Magna Carta was signed.

Rep. Ted Poe: History of Pakistan’s support for terrorist groups goes back to 1980s

Ted PoeThere is a laundry list of evidence of Pakistan’s support for terrorist groups, and I think a little more history is in order because this activity by Pakistan has been going on for years and has been below the radar.

Since 1980, Pakistan has provided a safe haven and support, as I mentioned, for the Haqqani Network. Continue reading Rep. Ted Poe: History of Pakistan’s support for terrorist groups goes back to 1980s

Why Trump has the Panama Canal on his mind: historic infrastructure projects

It’s our great honor to have President and Mrs. Varela from Panama.  And we have many things to discuss.  We’re going to spend quite a bit of time today — the Panama Canal is doing quite well.  I think we did a good job building it, right?

President Trump’s apparent misfire during his meeting with President Varela of Panama (which Twitter quickly turned into a trending topic) was likely due to the fact that he and other officeholders have had big, historic infrastructure projects on their minds. The Panama Canal is just one of the historical references recently deployed in an effort to inspire public interest in this topic, and to make a point about regulation and red tape. Trump: “Nobody has gotten rid of so many regulations as the Trump administration”

We will be removing federal restrictions that have prevented many different industries from creating apprenticeship programs.  We have regulations on top of regulations.  And in history, nobody has gotten rid of so many regulations as the Trump administration.  And that’s one of the reasons that you see the jobs and the companies all kicking in so strongly.

Trump: “Job enthusiasm” and “business enthusiasm” has “never been higher”

We have a lot of companies moving into this country.  You see the unemployment rate is at a very, very low level.  Job enthusiasm and manufacturing, business enthusiasm is at record levels — never been higher.

Rep. Jim Banks: Size of US armed forces at historic lows

Consider that two-thirds of our Army are not ready to deploy. Our Navy is smaller than it has been in 99 years, and our Air Force is the smallest ever and losing pilots at an alarming rate. These are not the marks of a ready force, and the work to rebuild must begin right now.

Rep. Don Young: America, possibly the last nation to have a colony, “should stop colonizing”

I think it is time that America should stop colonizing. If I am not mistaken, this is the last Nation that has a colony. The great America of the United States has a colony, and I think it is time that we change that. Vote in Congress to make sure that we have the 51st State.

Rep. Jody Hice: Johnson Amendment created “behind closed doors…without any debate”

Jody HiceI think by this time most people are familiar, at least they have heard about the Johnson amendment. It came about in 1954, when Lyndon Johnson barely won a race for Senate because many people thought he was soft on communism. So one of the first things he did when he got here was, behind closed doors, without any vetting, without any debate, had inserted into the IRS Code a statement that basically says that nonprofits cannot address political issues, or they could potentially lose their tax-exempt status.

Sen. Rand Paul: Selling arms to create jobs? Eisenhower warned about this

Rand PaulThere is probably no greater purveyor of hatred for Christianity and Judaism than Saudi Arabia. We should not be giving them weapons.

Some will argue that it is a jobs program. Well, isn’t that swell. We are going to give money to people who behead you and crucify you to create jobs. That should never be the way we make a decision about arms sales in our country.
A famous Republican and general, General Dwight Eisenhower, Continue reading Sen. Rand Paul: Selling arms to create jobs? Eisenhower warned about this

Tillerson: “History has shown that the United States leaves a footprint of freedom wherever it goes”

History has shown that the United States leaves a footprint of freedom wherever it goes. Ensuring the security and prosperity of the American people and advancing our values has necessitated difficult decisions in areas of our budget. The Fiscal Year 2018 budget request includes substantial funding for many foreign assistance programs under the auspices of USAID and the State Department, but Continue reading Tillerson: “History has shown that the United States leaves a footprint of freedom wherever it goes”
