Trump: “Job enthusiasm” and “business enthusiasm” has “never been higher”

We have a lot of companies moving into this country.  You see the unemployment rate is at a very, very low level.  Job enthusiasm and manufacturing, business enthusiasm is at record levels — never been higher.

Tillerson: “History has shown that the United States leaves a footprint of freedom wherever it goes”

History has shown that the United States leaves a footprint of freedom wherever it goes. Ensuring the security and prosperity of the American people and advancing our values has necessitated difficult decisions in areas of our budget. The Fiscal Year 2018 budget request includes substantial funding for many foreign assistance programs under the auspices of USAID and the State Department, but Continue reading Tillerson: “History has shown that the United States leaves a footprint of freedom wherever it goes”

Wilbur Ross: “Trump is doing more to improve the U.S.-China relationship than any president in decades”

President Trump is doing more to improve the U.S.-China relationship than any president in decades, and this final beef protocol agreement represents even more concrete progress. As we clear away long-standing issues like this one, focusing on near-term, verifiable deliverables, we are building a sound foundation for further discussions.

Donald Trump: This cabinet has faced record-setting confirmation delays

The Washington Post has checked this statement.

This is our first Cabinet meeting with the entire Cabinet present. The confirmation process has been record-setting long — and I mean record-setting long — with some of the finest people in our country being delayed and delayed and delayed.

Donald Trump: Claims to be the most productive president in history, with a few exceptions

This claim has been fact-checked by the Washington Post, NBC, AP, and others. Politifact analyzed a previous Trump claim about historic levels of productivity.

Never has there been a president, with few exceptions—case of FDR, he had a major depression to handle—who has passed more legislation and who has done more things than what we’ve done.

Trump: Founders’ actions show— “We don’t worship government.  We worship God.”

And above all else, we know this:  In America, we don’t worship government.  We worship God.  (Applause.)  Right?  We worship God.  (Applause.)

Thank you. Our religious liberty is enshrined in the very First Amendment in the Bill of Rights. The American Founders invoked our Creator four times in the Declaration of Independence. Don’t worry, we’re not going to let them change it. (Laughter and applause.) You see what goes on nowadays, right?

Benjamin Franklin reminded his colleagues at the Constitutional Convention to begin by bowing their heads in prayer. Inscribed on our currency are the words: “In God We Trust.” And we proudly proclaim that we are “One Nation Under God,” every time we say the Pledge of Allegiance.

Mattis: “Engagement with the world” is “deeply rooted in the American psyche”

James MattisSo, I think that we have been engaged in the world for a long time. I think historically the Americans have been reluctant to see themselves in that role. It — we were quite happy between our two oceans to stay there.

Talking Points Watch: Team Trump’s repeated claims that first foreign trip “historic”

Update: Added statements by President Trump from his weekly address.

A collection of statements by Rex Tillerson and Sean Spicer characterizing President Trump’s recent trip, especially to Saudi Arabia, as “historic.”

I am thrilled to be back in the United States after our first historic foreign trip.

Our first foreign trip was full of historic and unprecedented achievements. Joined by many old and new friends, we have paved the way for the new era of cooperation – one that calls upon each nation to take more responsibility to bring peace to their people.

In Saudi Arabia, I was honored to participate in a historic summit with the leaders of more than 50 Muslim and Arab nations, where King Salman and many other leaders expressed their desire to take on a greater role in defeating terrorists who murder innocents of all faiths.

Tillerson: “America First” means bringing foreign relations “back into balance”

So let’s talk first about my view of how you translate “America first” into our foreign policy. And I think I approach it really that it’s America first for national security and economic prosperity, and that doesn’t mean it comes at the expense of others. Our partnerships and our alliances are critical to our success in both of those areas. But as we have progressed over the last 20 years – and some of you could tie it back to the post-Cold War era as the world has changed, some of you can tie it back to the evolution of China since the post-Nixon era and China’s rise as an economic power, and now as a growing military power – Continue reading Tillerson: “America First” means bringing foreign relations “back into balance”
